ශාක කුලය - මෙලියාසේ Meliaceae
ලුණුමිදෙල්ල ගස මිනිසාට ප්‍රයෝජනවත් ශාකයක් වේ. තරමක් තෙත් දේශගුණයට කැමති ලුණුමිදෙල්ල ශාකය කටුක දේශගුණයක වුව ද වැඩේ. අපේ රටේ වැවෙන ලුණුමිදෙල්ල වර්ග වශයෙන් තුනක් සඳහන් වේ. ඒවා නම් බත්ලුණුමිදෙල්ල, ගල්ලුණුමිදෙල්ල හා කොහොඹලුණුමිදෙල්ල යි. මේවා වර්ග වශයෙන් වෙන් කරන්නේ දැවවල ශක්තිමත් භාවය අනුවයි.

යන නාමයන්ගෙන් හඳුන්වනු ලබන ලූණුමිදෙල්ල ශාකය මිදෙල්ල කුලයට අයත් නොවන ගසකි. මෙහි බීජ වෙරළු බීජයට සමාන ය. එසේ ම ගෙඩි ද වෙරළු ගෙඩි තරම් විශාල වේ. ගෙඩි පොකුරක පණහක් හැටක් පමණ හැදී ලස්සනට අතු අග එල්ලී ඇතත් මෙහි ඇති අමිහිරි තිත්ත නිසා කිසිම සතෙක් ආහාර සඳහා නොගනී. මෙහි මුලින් සඳහන් කළ පරිදි ලුණුමිදෙල්ල ගස් වර්ග වශයෙන් කීපයක් තිබුණත් ඒ හැම ගසක් ම එක හා සමාන ය. එහෙත් ලීවල තද හා ශක්තිමත් බව අනුව වර්ග වශයෙන් වෙන් වී ඇත. බත්ලුණුමිදෙල්ල ගස ඉතා ඉක්මනින් වැඩෙන ලී ය. ශක්තිමත් නැති ගසකි. මෙම ගසක් වසර දහයක් පමණ යන විට පරිණත භාවයට පත් වේ. ලුණුමිදෙල්ල ගෙඩියේ ඇති බීජය පැළවීම ඉතා අඩුවෙන් සිදු වේ. ඊට හේතුව එම බීජයේ ඇති ඝණකම සහිත කටුව නිසා අංකුර ඇදීම දුර්වල වීමයි. මේ නිසා ලුණුමිදෙල්ල ගසක ගෙඩි දහස් ගණනක් හැදුණත් පැළවන්නේ ස්වල්පයක් පමණි. ලුණුමිදෙල්ල සංයුක්ත නාරටියක පත්‍රිකා බොහෝ ගණනක් ඇත. එම පත්‍රිකා කෙළවර දාර ගතියක් පෙන්නුම් කරයි. තද අව්වට මැළවෙනසුලු ඉතා මෘදු පත්‍රිකා බොහෝ තුනී මාංශ ගතියකින් යුක්ත ය. මෙම පත්‍ර දෙසැම්බර් මස වන විට සියල්ල බිම හැලේ. නැවත අලුත් දලු දමා මල් පිපෙන්නේ පෙබරවාරි මාර්තු මාසවල දී ය. මල් හටගන්නේ පොකුරක් වශයෙනි. එහි මල් සිය ගණනක් ඇත. පත්‍රිකාවක් 5 cm ක් 6 cm ක් පමණ දිග වන අතර පළල 3 cm ක් පමණ වේ. ලුණුමිදෙල්ල අතු අග ගෙඩි පොකුරු වශයෙන් හටගනී. මෙය ඖෂධයක් ලෙස භාවිතයට නොගැනේ.

The Lunumidella tree is a useful plant for human beings. Lunumidella prefers mild climates but grows well in harsh climates. There are three types of Lunumidella grown in our country. These are Battulunumidella, Gallenumidella and Kohombalunumidella. These are classified according to the strength of the wood. The seeds here are similar to the beech seed. Similarly, the fruits are as big as beech nuts. There are about fifty to sixty fruit clusters hanging on the beautiful branches, but no animal eats them because of the bitter taste. As mentioned earlier, there are several types of Lunumidella trees, but they are all the same. But the wood is divided into squares according to its hardness and strength. The Battulumidella tree is a fast growing tree. A tree that is not strong. This tree matures in about ten years. Seed germination in Lunumidella fruit is very rare. This is because the thicker the shell, the weaker the shoots. As a result, the Lunumidella tree produces thousands of fruits but only a few sprout. Lunumidella has a large number of leaves in a compact vein. The edges of the leaves show an edge. The leaves are very thin and fleshy, very soft and can withstand intense sunlight. These leaves will all be dropped by December. New leaves sprout again and bloom in February and March. Flowers bloom in clusters. It has hundreds of flowers. The leaves are about 5 cm by 6 cm long and about 3 cm wide. Lunumidella branches in clusters. This is not used as a medicine.
