ශාක කුලය - එබනේසියේ - Abeneseae
අපේ රටේ ආවේනික ශාකයක් වූ කළුවර ගස වර්ග කීපයක් දක්නට ඇත. වියළි දේශගුණයට ඔරොත්තු දෙන රළු වර්ධනයට හිතකර කළුවර ගස වැඩී වර්ධනය වීමට දිගු කාලයක් ගනී. කළුවර ගසක කඳ විශාල වීම සිදුවන්නේ ඉතා සෙමින් ය. ඊට හේත්තුව එහි ලීයේ ඇති ශක්තිමත් බව හා ඝනකමයි. කළුවර යන නම්න්ම එහි ස්වරූපය අපට දැනගත හැකි ය. ස්වභාවයෙන් ම කළුවර ලීය ඉතා කළු පාටින් යුක්තයි. අපේ රටේ වැවෙන කළුවර ශාක වර්ග දෙකකි. එක් වර්ගයක් කොළ සිහින් දිග පත්‍ර ඇති තරමක් උසට වැඩෙන වර්ගයකි. අනෙක අතුපතර විහිදී වැඩෙන අතු රිකිලි පවා කළු පාට කොළ බොකුටු හැඩයක් ගන්නා වර්ගයයි. මේ දෙවර්ගය ම එක හා සමාන ස්වරූපයක් දක්නට ලැබේ. ලංකාව, ඉන්දියාව, ඉන්දුනීසියාව සහ ජාවා දූපත්වල ද කළුවර ශාකය දක්නට ඇත. මාර්තු මාසයේ පමණ ගෙඩි ඉදී බිජ හැලෙන අතර ඒ මගින් ව්‍යාප්තිය සිදු වේ. ගෙඩියේ බීජ මංජරියේ පැසක මෙන් බීජ පැස් කීපයක් දක්නට ඇත. මල කුඩා පෙති හතරකින් යුක්ත වන අතර එය කහ පැහැයක් ගනී. කොළ රිකිලි අතර මල් හටගනී. කළුවර ගස ප්‍රධාන වශයෙන් යොදාගනු ලබන්නේ ගෘහ උපකරණ සැදීම සඳහා ය.

Ebony tree is found in the plains of Sri Lanka and in the Medirigiriya and Polonnaruwa areas. Ebony wood powder is said to be used to treat dog worms. The ebony tree is highly valued in our country. Ebony tree is a plant that prefers dry climates. It is also known as Karuwala tree in some areas.
